The thought for this post was started by reading a fair number of mentions and posts about a musician who died. The cause of death was not clear. However, what is clear is about the facts that had taken place in this musician’s life earlier – of battling with various substance addictions and the like.
This got me thinking and as always, some messages came, from the Universe. Many people have already spoken and written about “genius” and this is my attempt to share my thoughts on this.
Firstly, I searched for the etymology of the word “Genius” and this is what I got, thanks to Google!
The origin of the word is old Latin – “Gignere” which means to “beget”
This led to a usage of genius as “Attendant spirit from one’s birth” which later on also became to be known as “innate ability or inclination.”
This led to being used as the plain old “Genius” that is used today.
The online etymological dictionary gives the following explanation for “Genius”
late 14c., “tutelary or moral spirit” who guides and governs an individual through life, from Latin genius “guardian deity or spirit which watches over each person from birth; spirit, incarnation; wit, talent;” also “prophetic skill,” originally “generative power” (or “inborn nature”), from PIE *gen(e)-yo-, from root*gene- “to produce, give birth, beget” (see genus). Sense of “characteristic disposition” of a person is from 1580s. Meaning “person of natural intelligence or talent” and that of “exalted natural mental ability” are first recorded 1640s.
So, the word was never intended to be something that was unique to the human being. It was supposedly “gifted” by the Universe.
And now, let me move on to consciousness and how is related to this subject of excellence in any field, that is today mistakenly referred to as a person “being” a genius, rather the appropriate usage of a person “having” a genius. The original meaning of “Genius” places the locus external to the person “having” the genius. However, today, this has been replaced by the usage that the “person IS a genius!” which, to my mind, is absolutely incorrect, and places the recipient of such accolades at a great disadvantage.
To explain consciousness probably needs a more evolved soul than I – and I know that I, like millions and billions others, am on the path. How far each one of us have traversed the path, maybe ONLY the Universe knows. Suffice to say, I am still on the path. So this is not about consciousness, per se. And only about how it aligns to excellence, having or possessing a genius, and the Universe.
It is clear that all matter, including all forms of life, in the Universe came into being through some strange phenomena, and various thinking processes and paths attribute a multitude of reasons for this coming into being or creation. And if there is a “creation” there has to be a “creator!” And I am not going into that aspect at all in this article. It is a fact though that the Universe has existed far longer than human beings have, and in all likelihood, will exist far longer after that last human being has perished.
It is a myth that I create anything. I am only re-identifying and reproducing something that already exists in the Universe
So, I believe that it is a myth that I create anything. I am only re-identifying and reproducing something that already exists in the Universe. This applies even to the greatest “inventions” of all time. When questioned, almost all of the “inventors” have said that the “idea” or “thought” or “inspiration” came to them from somewhere. Most mistakenly attribute this “coming of the message” to the individual. And herein lies the fallacy. The individual is never ever the source. They are ONLY a conduit. For example, this article itself is a case in point. I, as the being that “writes” this, is ONLY a conduit and not the source. If I were to start believing that “I” and the “Source”, that would be the beginning of the end, and in other words, the taking on immense pressure on myself, which I might not be able to handle well.
Every being that has ever existed in any living form is a only a conduit for conveying the “power” from the “source.”
I have always told people, with genuine humility, and with genuine intent, that I am only a conduit. In contemporary terms, I am just the simple power cord, that supplies power from the power source to the implement (computer, phone, TV, etc.) I also add, that every being that has ever existed in any living form is a only a conduit for conveying the “power” from the “source.” And since I am a conduit, the biggest aim that I have is to become the most ideal conduit, conveying the greatest amount of the power from the source to the implement. In other words, that there ought to be minimal, tending as close to no transmission loss as possible in the process of conducting the power.
The Universe is extremely benevolent, and is always giving. There is no question of the Universe not giving, ANYTHING that an individual wants to have. The real question is if the individual is willing and able to receive all that the Universe gives. And herein lies the need to believe that the individual is NOT the source, and that all that the individual needs to do, is to work on removing the blocks that prevent the flow from the Universe into them. This requires an attitude of humility and a higher level of consciousness. The higher the level of consciousness that one possesses, the greater the level of humility, and understanding that the Universe is much larger, and all knowing. The lower the level of consciousness, the higher the levels of “ego” and belief that the individual is the source.
How does this thinking that it all comes from the Universe help? And how is this connected to the musician that I started off with? Well it connects BIG time with the initial thought. The moment I believe that I create the music or anything that has excellence, that is the moment I have taken on the biggest burden I can – that of replicating the superb work that I might have been graced by the Universe to create. This applies in all forms of creative and other excellence.
The moment I believe that I create the music or anything that has excellence, that is the moment I have taken on the biggest burden I can – that of replicating the superb work that I might have been graced by the Universe to create.
When the individual starts to think that he or she is the “source” and “inspiration” the burden is almost unbearable. This leads to a lessening of alignment with the Universe and the Source, and a greater belief in the Ego and the individual being the source. And when the inspiration begins to wear off, comes the stage of resorting to artificial hallucinogens like alcohol, drugs and the like. And how do such artificial stimulants help? They are called “Hallucinogens” for a reason. Hallucination is defined as “an experience involving the apparent perception of something not present.” So, in their own way, these drugs increase the level of consciousness of the person using them, artificially, and at a great cost of damage to the physical being. As they say, the body is a temple and these drugs abuse the temple and in the end, destroy the being.
This is exactly what happens in the cases of all those who were “graced” (not gifted) with the resident genie who helped the being stay in touch with the Source. A slight digression here: My friend, Kichu Krishnan, always calls it the “grace of God” and explains it thus: “A gift means that the person deserves it. Grace means that it is an undeserved gift.” What it means is this – even the fact that the Universe has chosen to bestow some good, the individual will be helped greatly to think that they were undeserving and counter-intuitively, they continue to stay “graced.”
Kichu Krishnan, always calls it the “grace of God” and explains it thus: “A gift means that the person deserves it. Grace means that it is an undeserved gift.”
So, when the individual believes that they are the Source, they believe less in the Source being outside of themselves. And to recreate the magic of creative excellence, tend to rely on hallucinogens that artificially induce elevated levels of consciousness, and in a dangerous way. And as with all things artificial, more and more is needed with greater usage, with less and less effect after each usage. This leads to the most common “Death by overdose!”
It is simple: stay humble, stay focused on being the best conduit, believe that the Universe is ever benevolent, and will continue to grace me and it will.
In my thinking, it is simple: stay humble, stay focused on being the best conduit, believe that the Universe is ever benevolent, and will continue to grace me and it will. And I will never ever need the help of artificial hallucinogens ever to create intrinsic excellence. And while we can be in awe of the creations of such individuals, let us also understand that these were intrinsically flawed beings, that started believing they were the source themselves. And that, to me, is a sure fire way of falling greatly in terms of traversing the path to Universal consciousness. And reminiscent of the analogy of climbing 1 step and falling 3!
And that is also the reason I can use to share this wholeheartedly – I am ONLY the person delivering the message – and any bouquets or brickbats, are to the Universe! And any that you might give, I wholeheartedly submit to the Universe!
May the Universe bless us all with health, happiness, and joy!
